Traditional treatments, such as medications, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, may be the very first options that a physician will recommend. These, however, are not the only options, and many individuals with a wide variety of diagnoses may choose to couple traditional forms of treatment with effective alternative options including.
From the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine or Integrative Medicine come techniques and approaches from Acupressure and Bowen Technique to Wisdom Healing Qigong and Yoga. These modalities can be categorized by how the technique looks and feels and how the practitioner addresses the individual client (structural and biomechanical approaches, exercise or functional methods, acupressure and reflex point based therapies, balancing circadian rhythms, energy medicine, electrotherapies, mind-body processes, health and life coaching and nutritional and informational supplementation.
Many of these approaches can be also categorized by the kind of issue they address. For example there is evidence that craniosacral therapy can be beneficial to people with mesothelioma and other cancer. Integrative manual therapy has benefitted people with neurological issues including Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism, Cerebral palsy, Friederick's Ataxia and spinal cord injuries. Matrix energetics has also shifted things for people with Multiple Sclerosis, glaucoma and other vision issues, arthritis and shoulder pain. Osteopathic manual treatment has been used effectively to help people with immune system issues, influenza, and lymphedema.
